The applicants suggest that cooling actives,such as menthol are used in personal care formulations to provide a fresh sensation or scent on skin after topical use.They may also have local anaesthetic and counter-irritant qualities.Unfortunately,however,cooling actives may be difficult to formulate at high concentration,and there may be safety and environmental constraints on their use at levels high enough to produce a noticeable effect upon topical application.The patent describes a personal care composition whereby a copolymer in association with a cationic polymer improves deposition of a cooling active during topical application of the product to skin.Menthol is the most preferred cooling active in association with N-(4-cyanomethylphenyl)-p-menthanecarboxamide,which is commercially available from Givaudan under the name Evercool 180.The copolymer is acrylamidopropyltrimonium chloride/acrylamide copolymer and the preferred cationic polymer is guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride.
