Singapore—Global metallurgical coke demand is expected to increase steadily but the steelmaking complex could be faced with tougher emissions controls amid growing interest in decarbonization and environmental sustainability, speakers at the S&P Global Platts Singapore coking coal conference said Aug. 28 “Steel mills in Southeast Asia region like Vietnam and Malaysia have greater demand for coke,” Jack Tang, coal and coke trader from Avani Resources, said during the conference. This came at a time where some coke producers are focusing on serving their domestic market needs in light of steel production recovery.
