EU carbon border tax should be on a company-by-company basis: NLMK

London—Russian steelmaker NLMK believes company-by-company taxation is a fairer measure when it comes to carbon dioxide emissions and the border carbon adjustment the European Commission aims to institute, Grigory Fedorishin, company president, said during an earnings call Wednesday. Asked by an analyst what NLMK’s views were on the EC's plans to introduce the adjustment – a fee on a product imported to the EU from a country without a carbon pricing plan that is intended to be an incentive to decarbonize an emitter's production processes – and what the company's response to the measure could be, Fedorishin said discussions, which are ongoing, are still in the very early stages and no details on specific mechanisms have emerged as yet.
