Iron ore falls as steel turns bearish

Singapore—Seaborne iron ore prices fell Thursday on potential steel production cuts in February after steel inventory accumulated in January. S&P Global Platts assessed the 62% Fe Iron Ore Index at $83/dry mt CFR North China, down $2.60/dmt from Wednesday. The front-month February TSI swap fell $2.70/dmt over the same period to $82.10/dmt. Some steel mills in Shandong and Shanxi provinces were heard voluntarily reducing steel production by up to 20% in February due to transportation restrictions and delayed construction activities.
