Singapore—The East Asia bulk heavy melting scrap market edged lower this week on a recent deal done into Vietnam, and amid buyers turning their interest towards Japanese scrap due to its increasing competitive pricing, market sources said. S&P Global Platts assessed the East Asia bulk HMS I/II 80:20 spot price at $297-$300/ mt CFR Wednesday, with a midpoint of $298.50/mt down $5.50/mt from a week ago. A US-origin deepsea cargo comprising HMS I/II 80:20 was heard traded into southern Vietnam at $302/mt CFR last Thursday, which after normalizing for the basis port to Platts assessment specifications, would equate to $297/mt CFR South Korea.
