Singapore—The Capesize market in the Pacific remained firm Tuesday, with plenty of cargoes infused and sizable fixtures concluded at better freight numbers during the Asian trading hours. The bunker price for HSFO was dropping, which would give owners better time charter earnings in the firm market. The trading day began with talks of mining majors seeking ships to move iron ore from west Australia to China. In the fixture list, Rio Tinto was heard taking three to four ships from Dampier to Qingdao for end-November laycans at $8.55-$8.65/wmt levels. FMG was also reportedly fixing two ships for moving iron ore from Port Hedland to Qingdao for similar laycans with the rates heard to be at $8.55/wmt and $8.60/wmt.
