Uganda revamps law, will take compulsory stakes in mine projects

Uganda is to change its 2018 Mining and Minerals Policy, obliging all mining companies to give shares to the country’s government once a mining lease is granted, a senior government official said Friday. This is in line with the country's aim to seek maximum benefits from the mining sector, the official said. The policy approved by the country's cabinet this week also makes it mandatory for companies to add value to their mineral products, among other proposals.
