Russia’s state-controlled Zarubezhneft started drilling at an onshore block in Cuba, where the company’s previous attempts to develop offshore blocks did not bear positive results. Late last week Zarubezhneft began drilling a horizontal well at the Boca de Jaruco oil field in Cuba, where Russian firms agreed to implement new technology to boost recovery rates several years ago. The plan is to drill three wells in the field to test various enhanced oil recovery technologies.
