Ferro-tungsten prices continued to rise this week, as recent tightness was reinforced by concerns about a potential threat to movement of units from China as a result of the Wuhan coronavirus. Ferro-tungsten prices reached $30.80-32 per kg dup in-warehouse Rotterdam on Friday January 31, up from $30.50-31.20 on Wednesday January 29, and $30-31 a week earlier. Friday’s price marked a fresh seven-month high, partly fueled by higher offer prices from China. The tungsten market is highly dependent on units from China, and tightness had already been reported in ferro-tungsten prior to the outbreak of the coronavirus.
