Researchers at the heart of last year’s “Climategate” storm in the UK have been cleared of any suspicion of dishonesty, but have been criticized for lack of openness by a review set up to investigate the controversy. In November 2009, about 1,000 e-mails from the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia (UEA) were made public, fueling challenges to the reliability of climate science and the conclusions of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). All this happened shortly before the Copenhagen climate change summit and somewhat over-shadowed the proceedings.
