New car registrations down in 2017

Falling consumer confidence and concerns over diesel dented the industry's health. New car registrations fell for the first time in six years in 2017, dropping 5.7% compared with the previous year. The slump is chiefly a result of declining consumer confidence, worsening exchange rates and concerns over the future of diesel, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), which represents the industry.
