Prices for Australian high-ash coal started to stabilise this week on perceptions that Chinese import restrictions are being applied less strictly than expected. The price for fob Newcastle NAR 5,500 kcal/kg coal fell by 23￠ on the week to $50.56/t fob. A Chinese trader was heard to have sold a Panamax cargo of NAR 5,500 kcal/kg coal at $50.50/t fob Newcastle for December loading, while a Capesize cargo was thought to have been sold into India at $49/t fob Newcastle for December loading.
