The objective of [1] is to propose and design a new scheme of crossing for slot waveguides, not just a mode converter. The mode converter described in [2] is only a constituent part in our designed scheme. To inform the readers of the journal about the mode converter and maintain the completeness of [1], we briefly introduced the operating principle and the geometry of the mode converter, as illustrated in figure 2 of [1], and we have cited [2] in our paper (reference [31] in [1]). However, we redesigned and optimized the structural parameters of this mode converter by the effective index and finite difference time domain methods. In fact, other constituent parts of our scheme, i.e. the tapered strip waveguide and multimode crossing, are also investigated in detail. Fabrication tolerances to the key structural parameters were also presented and the performance of our designed crossing was assessed. To the best of our knowledge, such work was not reported prior to [1].
