China steel consumption falls first time for 14 years, exports to grow further

China’s steel consumption dropped in January-August for the first time since 2000 in view of a slowdown in economic growth. Still, plants have not adjusted down their production ramp-up plans, even in spite of a dramatic overproduction. To continue stepping up exports is the only way out for mills.
