THE General Pharmaceutical Council has outlined plans for the safe supply of pharmacy medicines if self-selection comes into force. This is not expected before the end of 2014 because of Department of Health queries around the GPhC's registered pharmacy standards. The document is intended as a starting point for discussion with stakeholders, but Martin Astbury, President of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, said it is deeply concerned that the regulator is entering into the discussion with its "mind already made up" on self-selection.
