EVIDENCE is lacking for the effectiveness of a number of popular over-the-counter products, a Which? report published thsi week has warned. The consumer watchdog is calling for companies to be transparent, so that consumers can scrutinise the evidence behind the claims and make a truly informed decision. "We chose popular health products from the pharmacy shelves — from cough medicines to joint-care supplements—and found 10 products with claims that our experts believe are not backed up by enough evidence to convince us to buy them," the report says.
