Steep fall in cervical cancer predicted

Cases of cervical cancer could fall from 3,000 to 700 a year as a result of the NHS cervical cancer immunisation programme, according to research that reveals more cases of cervical cancer are caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV) types 16 and 18 than previously thought. Most research to date has shown that approximately 70 per cent of cervical cancer cases are linked to HPV types 16 or 18.
