Richard Gold and Jean-Frederic Morin (Oct 17, p 1329) appeal to the UK Government to encourage pharmaceutical companies to license their AIDS drug patents to the UNITAID Patent Pool Initiative. However, their letter contains several inaccuracies. Contrary to their claims, UNITAID has consulted with a. wide range of stakeholders in the ongoing process of designing the Pool, including the patent-owning and generic pharmaceutical industries, non-governmental organisations, UN agencies, the World Trade Organization, and academic experts.
