Rowan Chlebowski and colleagues report the effects of hormone replacement therapy on the incidence of and mortality from lung cancer in elderly postmenopausal women in the Women's Health initiative (WHI) study. They report no difference in incidence, but increased mortality from lung cancer. In his accompanying Comment, Apar Ganti concludes that combined oestrogen and progesterone therapy increases mortality after diagnosis of lung cancer.
