Clifford Hudis and colleagues1 have published guidelines recommending which events should be included in the definition of a range of endpoints. These guidelines are an important contribution, because even the most well-accepted endpoints (such as disease-free survival) have been defined differently in various trials (table), affecting cross-trial comparisons and meta-analyses.
