VIGOUR in collaborative research.

At the European Society of Cardiology Congress in Munich (Aug 30-Sept 3) a group of 50 cardiologists and methodologists from 18 countries met to discuss with sponsors the challenges and opportunities of large-scale trials; The VIGOUR (Virtual Coordinating Centre for Global Collaborative Cardiovascular Research) group views international collaborative trials as a way to improve standards of research, extend quality of care, and fosterthe next generation of research leaders. Composed of academic researchers who have collaborated for 20 years, the group now seeks to engage a broader range of colleagues in developing countries, and to promote academic research as a career, particularly in cultures where it is undervalued.
