Turkey has been a net importer of cotton each season since 1991/92, and imports are forecast to exceed exports by 100,000 tons in the current season. Strong growth in cotton use caused by increases in exports of textiles and apparel, coupled with little growth in production, has resulted in a shift in Turkey's trade position in the world cotton market.
