'A flag now flying' in cotton trade

As the saying goes, "A week is a long time in politics." Having completed eight months of my term in office, I am convinced that this expression is not appropriate to the office of the president of the Liverpool Cotton Association. If asked, along with my eminent predecessors, I would probably agree that a year is indeed a short time to achieve the aspirations that you carry with you into your term. This year has been one of challenge, starting with the mandate to address the major issue of Sanctity of Contract. The procedure to enforce Good Trading Practices is, I am pleased to say, a flag now flying. However, as the saying goes, "If you see a turtle on a fence post, you know it didn't get there by itself." This is certainly true of the major measures introduced this year in the LCA Articles, Rules and Bylaws through the combined efforts of the LCA board, committee members, the Secretariat and approval of the membership. Even at this early stage we are beginning to see some positives. I am therefore hopeful that the adopted changes will set the precedent for better trade policy and for the support of the cotton contract.
