Canadian Natural Resources boosts Alberta output

Canadian Natural Resources remains committed to adding 125,000 b/d of new oil sands output capacity in Alberta by late 2017 at a cost of C$3 billion ($2.25 billion), despite the depressed and volatile price environment, CEO Steve Laut said Thursday. The company will add 45,000 b/d by September under the phase 2B expansion of its flagship Horizon oil sands mining facility, while another 80,000 b/d of new capacity will be installed by the fourth quarter of 2017 under phase 3, he said on an earnings webcast.
