Dollar transactions with Iran by non-US banks allowed

Washington-Non-US banks can do business with Iran without violating US sanctions, even if they use US dollars in their transactions, a top US Department of the Treasury official told Congress Wednesday. While the sanctions block Iran’s access to the US financial system, they do not cover US dollars held by non-US banks without a presence in the US, said Adam Szubin, Treasury’s acting under secretary for terrorism and financial intelligence.
