London—EU energy ministers Friday reached a political deal to cap the amount of cropbased biofuels in a compromise deal following a long-running debate over the environmental benefits of the alternative fuels. The EU Energy Council agreed to set a 7% cap on the amount of crop-based biofuels that can be counted toward the EU’s 2020 target to source 10% of its transport fuel from renewables, as well as a new 2020 non-binding target of 0.5% for advanced biofuels.
