Colombia to build LNG regasification unit

Bogota-A Colombian regasification plant scheduled to open near Cartagena in Decem- ber 2015 will process 348,000 Mcf/d from imported LNG for use mainly in thermoelec- tric power generation plants, the Minister of Mining and Energy, Amylkar Acosta, said at a press conference in Bogota on Tuesday. The plant, a privately financed $800 mil- lion project, is being built primarily to insure adequate supplies of gas to fuel power gener- ation during abnormal weather cycles, Acosta said. Colombia plans on converting several power plants to natural gas from costly and heavier carbon fuel oil.
