Singapore—China’s apparent gas demand rose 6% year on year to 14.68 billion cu m in August, with the pace of growth slowing sharply from the 23% rise seen in August 2013, according to Platts calculations based on recently released government data. Platts calculates China’s apparent gas demand by adding domestic gas production to net imports. Beijing-based consultancy 3E noted in its latest China Gas Monthly report for September that the country’s gas demand growth in recent months has been moderating to single digits, partly due to lower utilization in gas-fired power plants along China’s southeastern coast.
