Metgasco faces NSW drilling suspension

Singapore—The eastern Australian state of New South Wales has suspended independent exploration company Metgasco’s right to drill a conventional gas exploration well and referred the company to the state’s anticorruption body. Metgasco’s plans to drill for gas on a privately owned farm in northeastern New South Wales have drawn huge protests in a state where there is widespread opposition to onshore gas development, despite a predicted shortfall in gas supplies within the next few years.
