Washington—ExxonMobil on Friday confirmed that its exploratory University-1 well in Russia’s Kara Sea, drilled under a partnership with Rosneft, did strike hydrocarbons, but said the results were too preliminary to draw any conclusions on the resource base. “The results are under evaluation, and it would be premature to comment at this time,” Jeff Woodbury, ExxonMobil’s vice president of investor relations, said on an earnings conference call. “The well was safely plugged and abandoned, and the rig has departed the location.”
