Japex eyes bringing Canadian LNG back to Japan

Tokyo-Japan Petroleum Exploration may sell up to half its 1.2 million mt/year of LNG from its Canadian Pacific NorthWest project to Japanese utilities. The company estimates that the immedi- ate annual city gas demand from its Soma LNG import terminal in Japan would be 500,000-600,000 mt, senior managing direc- tor Shoichi Ishii told reporters. Japex is to receive 1.2 million mt/year from the Pacific NorthWest project, which is scheduled to start up at the end of 2018 and in which Japex has a 10% stake.
