Sydney-Australia has granted 13 new off- shore petroleum exploration permits, after receiving 23 bids for 15 blocks, in the first round of its 2012 acreage release. A total of A$180 million ($172 million) will be spent exploring the areas, located offshore Western Australia and Tasmania, over the initial three years of the permit terms. The proposed secondary work pro- grams could boost the total expenditure to more than A$550 million.
