High Utica gas flows may affect prices

Washington—Ohio’s Utica Shale will add 800,000 Mcf/d of gas processing capacity by year’s end, but so far prices have shown little reaction to the potential four-fold increase in gas flows into an already glutted Appalachian market. As with most shale plays, midstream development in the Utica has trailed production as drilling spreads from Chesapeake Energy-dominated Carroll County into surrounding counties, with newer entrants such as Gulfport Energy and Antero Resources bringing wells online.
