US more than doubles Williston resource estimate

Washington—The US Geological Survey April 30 estimated that about 7.4 billion barrels of undiscovered, technically recoverable oil lies in the Bakken and Three Forks tight oil formations in North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana. The estimate is more than double what the USGS said was available in 2008, but the prior estimate did not include the vast resources in the Three Forks formation which, at the time, had not been completely evaluated.
