Ukraine plans gas producer,shipper split from Naftogaz

Kiev—Ukraine’s government resolved June18 to turn state-owned natural gas producerUkrGazVydobuvannia and gas shipper UkrTrans-Gaz into joint stock companies, potentially pav-ing the way for their future privatization.The companies are currently parts of thenational energy company Naftogaz Ukrayinybut, according to a government resolutionpublished June 18, they will now be hived offfrom Naftogaz.The resolution is the first step in a plan toreorganize Naftogaz by breaking it up to createseparate entities, including a gas shipper, a gasproducer and a gas trader. The reorganizationwas suggested by the EU to unlock investmentin the modernization of Ukraine’s gas pipelines.
