Pakistan’s LNG import plans in jeopardy

Karachi—Pakistan’s plans to import LNG to avert a looming gas crisis are in jeopardy after the government refused to provide a sovereign guarantee to LNG projects as it battles its own financial difficulties, according to an official with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources. Pakistan last year issued licenses to three companies—Pakistan Gas Port, Turkeybased Global Energy Holding and Pakistan’s Engro Corporation— to set up three LNG terminals with a combined regasification capacity of 1.5 Bcf/d near Port Qasim.
