US gas storage build tops predictions as surplus dips

Knoxville, Tennessee—US natural gas storage rose by 61 Bcf last week to 2.667 Tcf, above market expectations but still well below average for this time of year, the Energy Information Administration said May 17. Most analysts predicted a build between 52 Bcf and 56 Bcf. A year earlier, EIA reported an 86-Bcf injection to storage, while the five-year average is a 91-Bcf build.
