Orlando, Florida-Expansion of the US biodiesel industry hangs on a decision expected within weeks on whether the Environmental Protec- tion Agency will stand by its preliminary target requiring 1.28 billion gallons of biodiesel in 2013, a top industry lobbyist said February 7. The federal Renewable Fuel Standard mandated biodiesel levels through 2012, but gave EPA discretion to set the annual targets thereafter. In December, the agency delayed announcing whether it would stick to the origi- nal 2013 target and indicated it might con- sider holding the 2012 level steady.
