New York—US motorists bought 61.590 mil-lion barrels of gasoline in the survey weekending April 6, down 2.4% from the year-agoweek, MasterCard Advisors said April 10 inreleasing survey data.The decline was smaller than the previousweek’s 3.5% year-on-year decrease with calen-dar differences serving as a possible factor,MasterCard Advisors SpendingPulse gasolineanalyst John Gamel said in weekly commentary.“This week’s year-over-year decline indemand was the smallest since the weekending December 23rd, which posted a 1.6%year-over-year decline,” Gamel said, addingthat “the Easter holiday was two weeks laterlast year compared to this year and thereforesome seasonal shifts may be a factor inthese smaller declines.”
