Russia’s Nord stream starts up second gas pipeline

Moscow—Partners in the Nord Stream gas pipeline project launched the second 27.5 billion cubic meter/year line on October 8, bringing the total capacity of the pipeline system that brings Russian gas directly to Europe under the Baltic Sea to 55 Bcm/year. The Gazprom-led consortium that operates Nord Stream said more parallel lines could also be built to expand the capacity of the link further.
