DOE studies more ethanol in mid-1990s cars

Washington-The Department of Energy is funding a study on the possible corrosive effects of using a 15% blend of ethanol with gasoline (E15) in older cars. DOE has given $125,000 to Kettering Uni- versity in Michigan to study the effect of using E15 on the rubber and plastic parts of cars made in the mid-1990s. The results could provide valuable data on what would happen if owners of older cars accidentally misfuel by using E15, which has only been approved for use in newer vehicles.
