India plans to expand SPR capacity to 18 million mt

Mumbai—India plans to increase the capacity of its strategic petroleum reserves to 18 million mt (132 million barrels) from the current 5.33 million mt being planned by 2020, Rajan K.Pillai, CEO of Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserves, said December 22. Oil Minister S. Jaipal Reddy told parliament last week that a feasibility study for the creation of 12.5 million mt of additional strategic oil reserves is in progress in four states— Karnataka, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Orissa.
