Dhaka-Bangladesh January 16 signed a memorandum of understanding with Qatar to import 4 million mt/year of LNG, paving the way for the South Asian country to become the newest LNG importer on the global market. The Bangladeshi embassy's counselor in Qatar, Mohammad Nasir Uddin, in a press release sent from Doha, confirmed the deal had been signed in the Qatari capital by Ener gy Secretary Mohammad Mejbahuddin and Qatar's Minister of State for Energy and Indus trial Affairs Mohammed Saleh Al-Sada.
