Iran, syria sign European natural gas transit accord

Dubai-Iran and Syria, Tehran's strongest ally in the Middle East, have signed a cooperation agreement to allow Iranian natural gas exports through Syria and further transit to Europe with a proposed pipeline scheduled for completion by 2013 or 2014, Iranian news agencies reported January 20. "After several rounds of talks, the new gas export route for Europe was finally agreed between the two countries and they signed a document," Iran's deputy oil minister Javad Owji was quoted as saying by the semi-official Mehr news agency.
