South Korean refiner GS Caltex shifts to profit

Seoul-South Korea's second-largest oil refiner GS Caltex said February 3 it swung to a net profit of Won 652.8 billion ($568.1 million) last year despite a 24.2% fall in sales. In 2008, the refiner posted a net loss of Won 290.3 billion.Sales were Won 26.09 trillion in 2009, compared with Won 34.42 trillion in the previous year, the unlisted refiner's parent GS said in a regulatory filing. Operating profit edged up 1.5% to Won 694.1 billion, compared with Won 683.8 billion in 2008.
