US regulators try to clarify drilling rules

Washington-Federal regulators on December 13 attempted to clarify a flurry of new off- shore drilling regulations, issuing a document they say is intended to "provide a clear path forward for safe resumption of deepwater drilling operations." But one part of the guidance document, issued by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Man- agement, Regulation and Enforcement, is already at odds with the major industry trade groups, which on December 13 coinci- dentally filed comments on one of the new drilling rules.
