Vancouver-From Shell to little-known private players, a handful of companies is running tests in a geological formation that is being touted as the next generation for Canada's oil sands. Known as the Grosmont Carbonate, the resource spreads across 54,000 square miles of northern Alberta and has a bitumen content estimated at 318 billion barrels, compared with the established oil sands reserves of 173 billion barrels.
