US Supreme Court declines to take Devon royalty case

Knoxville, Tennessee-The US Supreme Court on October 5 declined to hear an appeal by Devon Energy regarding a 2003 US Department of Interior decision that the company stop deducting certain costs from the value of coalbed methane produced under federal leases in the Powder River Basin of Wyoming. Interior requires producers to treat gas produced from federal leases into marketable condition at no cost to the government- known as the "marketable condition rule."
