Bolivia needs $6.5 billion to boost gas exports

Buenos Aires-Bolivia must invest about $6.5 billion to boost its natural gas exports to Argentina to satisfy contract terms, the Bolivian Hydrocarbons Chamber (CBH) said in a report on the industry published this week, as competition from global LNG supplies begins to heat up in the region. Under terms established in a 2006 deal, Bolivia agreed to gradually increase exports to a total of 27.7 million cu m/d by 2010. However, at present it is only delivering 4 million cu m/d because of slower-than-expected development of its reserves and a lack of pipeline capacity to get the supplies to its southern neighbor.
