Judge dismisses human rights case in Indonesia against ExxonMobil

Washington-A federal court judge has dismissed a case brought by Indonesian villagers who accused US oil giant ExxonMobil of complicity in alleged killings and torture by Indonesian military personnel hired by the company to guard its natural gas facilities in Aceh province. "We have fought these baseless claims for eight years and [the] decision validates the company's assertion that the claims are without merit," ExxonMobil spokeswoman Margaret Ross said October 1. She added that the company had worked for generations to improve the quality of life in Aceh and "strongly condemns human rights abuses in any form."
